Here to train dancers as athletes, as well as artists.

The body is a miraculous thing. As dancers, we need to learn how to protect our bodies in order to have long careers. If your goal is to become a professional dancer, or dance through high school, I still want to instill good training, good habits and correct technique. With over 24 years of dance experience, as well as continuing my education in Exercise Science, I am working to keep dancers happy, healthy and able to relieve some of the aches and pains associated with dance.

My classes are fun, challenging, motivating, and geared towards making sure you understand HOW to dance, not just teaching steps.

Understanding Technique, not just teaching technique

We all learn differently. Some students are visual learners. Some Verbal. Physical. Logical. The list goes on and on. As a teacher, I bring many aspects of learning into the classroom to help each student reach his or her highest potential.

We are not the same, and cannot be treated as such. By making learning fun and interesting, we can teach not just steps, but an understanding of dance and its connection to the outside world as well.

Body Awareness

Dancers need to understand the hows and whys of things. Telling a dancer to “turn out,” with no reference to how or what needs to work in order to do so, is not productive. By training a dancer with proper alignment from the beginning, and giving them the tools they need to understand why something works or doesn’t, enables them to be able to self correct and be independent thinkers and movers.

Injury Prevention

Dance beats up the body, there is no doubt about that. It is easy to dance when you do not know how, but as soon as you learn, it becomes ten times more difficult. Being able to make that easier by teaching strength and alignment helps alleviate some of the pressue we put on our bodies on the daily.

Dancers need to know what muscles activate to do each job. The muscles used for jumping are not the same used for a port de bras exercise. Knowing when to fire, WHAT to fire and HOW to fire is what we focus on. Working on correct placement of body parts adds to the stability and strength of the body.
